When we hear the word “leadership”, many different images come to one’s mind. These include

- • A general of an Army protecting his state.
There is no specific definition of leadership. Every time you ask someone, you will get a unique definition of it because everyone has his or her own idea of what leadership is. According to the Webster dictionary, a leader is someone having the power or ability to set the course of a path and lead the others on it. The leaders set their goals and lay the groundwork to achieve them. In the process, they set their direction, direct their vision and create something wonderful and new.

“I am not afraid of an army of lions which is led by a sheep but I am afraid of an army of sheep which led by a lion.”
The leaders are energetic and organised who set high standards and usually accomplish a great deal. John Quincy Adams spoke of leadership as
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
Robin S. Sharma highlighted the leadership attributes of influence and inspiration as
“Leadership is not about a title or a designation. It is about impact, influence and inspiration. Impact involves getting results, spreading the passion you have for your work is an influence, and you have to inspire team-mates and customers.”
There is a fine line between a leader and a boss one works for. Theodore Roosevelt shed light on this difference as
“People ask the difference between a leader and a boss. The leader works in the open, and the boss in covert. The leader leads, and the boss drives.”
The former President John F. Kennedy related the leadership with the process of learning
“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.”
Dwight D. Eisenhower demonstrated the importance of the integrity in a leader.
“Integrity is the supreme quality of leadership. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an office or an army.”
Traits Of The Ideal Leader
It is very often that we hear the comment from the people if someone was born a leader. The leaders are either born with the characteristics, or they develop the traits which enable others to look up to them as a leader. We divide larger concepts into smaller ones to understand them in a better way. In the same way, we divide the characteristics of an ideal leader into several different attributes and traits.
This virtue is always kept on the top whenever the traits of an ideal leadership are mentioned. It is very important that an ideal leader is honest in his dealings because he is a role model for the people to follow. Only will have the people under the charge will follow a leader if they believe and trust him.
It is must for an ideal leader to have an outstanding character. The exemplary of a leader is known by the people when he walks the talks and makes a lasting impression on others. Such type of leader is considered trustworthy and earns the right to lead, inspire and be respected.
One of the traits found in an ideal leader is his willingness and passion towards their cause or work and how he leads as a leader. An ideal leader is not afraid to get down in the field and get his hands dirty. Instead, a leader is a source of motivation and inspires other people to their action or cause.
Being one of the cornerstones of the virtues of an ideal leadership, an ideal leader is required having this trait. Such a leader is confident and sure about the decisions he makes and inspires the team to give their best when the time demands it. The proposed objective isn’t achievable if the leader doesn’t have the virtue of confidence.
It is a virtue of an ideal leader that to complete the situation, the leader functions in a purposely manner in situations where taking a risk is inevitable. During the times of uncertainty and unknowingly, people look up to the leader and find strength and security when the leader shows positive strength and confidence.
